Tablecloth – “Intelligentsia”
Restored according to the specimen preserved in the Georgian Palace of Arts (wall pano “Karikova” 1937-1940).
During this period, the traditional “blue tablecloth” was no longer an attribute widely used in the sacral, living, and festive rituals. It was forgotten because socialist Georgia dictated art with completely different ideas and forms of expression due to the demands of the central government.
This particular pattern is a unique material, where in the decorative textile made by the laws of applied art, along with modern motifs, separate motifs from the repertoire of “blue tablecloth” appear. The use of such motifs at the time required some courage and at the same time, creative freedom.
At first glance, beautiful, neutral decorative textile was a hidden coded reference to Georgian identity, which at the same time made modern fabric very national. โ
